Karen received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Calgary in 1985. She completed further training earning a Respiratory Therapy Diploma from SAIT in 1990, where she received the Trudell Award for outstanding academic performance. In 2002, Karen obtained a diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the Alberta College of Acupuncture and TCM, graduating at the top of her class. Her love of travel and desire to learn more about Chinese Medicine lead her to complete her clinical training of TCM in Hangzhou, China.

Karen has been working in the health care field since 1990, first as a Respiratory Therapist and more recently as a Practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, thus integrating both western and eastern knowledge into her treatments. She continues to develop her skills and is certified in ear diagnosis and treatment, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture (non-surgical facelifts) and Japanese moxibustion techniques.

In addition to her clinical work, Karen teaches both eastern and western medical courses at the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She also practices and teaches Taoist Tai Chi. The compassion and gentleness embodied in Taoist philosophy is evident in Karen's interaction with her clients.
