Common heel and foot pain problems that limit your ability to be active may be helped by custom orthotics and get you back to doing the things you like to do. You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from an assessment. Older adults down to our younger patients have found that their aches and pains subside following the use of orthotic support.

Back & Body Health’s Physiotherapist, Shauna McReavey, accepts both referred and non-referred patients and following a thorough assessment which includes a gait analysis she will provide an opinion as to whether or not you are a candidate for orthotics or for other treatment options.

Please bring all of the shoes/skates/ski boots/cycling shoes that you plan to use the orthotics in.

Email us at frontdesk@backandbodyhealth.com for additional information or book online for an appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are custom orthotics in Calgary?

$450+. Our rate is $500 for the first pair and $300 for additional pairs ordered within the same calendar year. This includes Biomechanical and Gait Analysis and Orthotic fitting.

What do orthotics do for your feet?

Supportive insoles help support and distribute pressure, so you’re less likely to fee aches and pains.

How long does it take to get used to custom orthotics?

2-3 weeks.

It is best to wear the new orthotics for 2-4 hours at time/day gradually increasing the duration.

How are orthotics made?

Our physiotherapist completes a Biomechanical and Gait Analysis of your feet and stride. A foam impression is taken of each foot. At the laboratory, via manual or computer techniques, a Positive mold, or direct mill polypropylene shell is prepared from the positive cast. Correction to said positives are as directed by clinician.

Do I need a prescription for Orthotics?

Yes. Insurance plans require a prescription from your doctor for reimbursement.

How long does it take for orthotics to work?

Start by wearing your orthotics for 2-4 hours/day, gradually increasing over a period of 2-4 weeks. It will take time for your feet to adjust to the support and may have a bit of discomfort in the first few days. This will subside over time.

How do I know if I need Orthotics?
  • The biggest sign you may benefit from orthotics is if your shoes are wearing unevenly. A sole that has worn on the inside is a sign of pronation or inward rolling. While wear on the outside is supination or outward rolling.
  • Pain in the arch or heel is a sign of Plantar Fasciitis – when the fascia that connects the heel bone to the base of toes is stressed causing inflammation.
  • Knee, hip or back pain can be caused from malalignment and posture issues. The feet are the foundation of the body, incorrect support can create an imbalance causing pain in other areas of the body.
  • Anyone who stands on their feet for many hours of the day, especially on a hard surface, would benefit from orthotics.
  • Runners or other athletes would benefit from orthotics, preventing injury.
What style of footwear can Orthotics be used in?

Orthotics can be made to fit runners, dress shoes, skis, cycling shoes or hockey skates for children and adults.

Do you direct bill to insurance for orthotics?

No, insurance companies do not allow for direct billing for orthotics. A deposit of $200 is taken at the Assessment then the remaining $300 is due at the time of pick up. At this time you will be given the necessary documents required for submitting to your insurance provider, excluding the prescription from your doctor. It is always a good idea to check with your insurance company on what they require and how to submit prior to booking an appointment.
