The prescription for optimal health & wellness is clear and the amazing results come by help from a qualified trainer, but equally from the desire of each individual person to challenge themselves in new ways to change their lives for the better. Behind each success story is a hard-working & determined individual who has the desire to change their lifestyle habits & to work towards being the healthiest person they can be. Don’t be fooled by gimmicks or trainers claiming to have discovered the “newest and best” method of training and of losing weight! Upon learning how to turn your body into a fat burning machine through proper nutrition, most people will lose weight. Having healthy levels of body fat though, is only one component amongst many other important characteristics of health. Quality training must include results that cannot be seen upon first glance. It is very important to look at the body in how it functions in life. The stages of physical development are:

  1. Stability
  2. Mobility
  3. Agility
  4. Strength
  5. Power

Every training program should be based on stability. If the body is not stable then that will negatively affect every other stage of physical development. Can you stand in the correct position and be well balanced at the same time? Are the small muscles that support your ankle, knee, hip and shoulder joints as strong as they need to be to stabilize the body under load? Often damage can be done to the body if you attempt to strengthen and/or move your large muscle groups while the small muscles that support those groups are weak. Strengthen the small muscles in your ankles, knees, hips & shoulders joints first, in conjunction with training the muscles of your core such as the abdominals, lower back and upper gluteus muscles. Once these joints and muscles are stable and strong, then and only then, can we begin to move from stability to mobility. Mobility, agility, strength and power can be introduced without the fear of the small muscles of the body failing under load.

Functional Fitness

Functional fitness is a training program that incorporates movement into strength training, balance, core strength, flexibility and agility. This style of exercise challenges your anaerobic and aerobic systems during the same session and will, very sequentially, prepare your body for movements involving multiple muscle groups at once (functional movements). In functional fitness, amongst others things, you get to run, jump, throw, catch, lift, push, pull and balance. Functional fitness not only allows for endless variety of movement, but more importantly targets all the important characteristics of physical health mentioned above while achieving this in one session. Regardless of whether you are a relative beginner or extremely fit, functional fitness can be just the challenge you need. This type of training should further allow you to live a pain free and functional life, fully able to perform whatever reasonable requests you make of your body. Functional fitness combined with proper nutrition will result in low body fat, a strong core, excellent balance, strong joints (ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders), improved posture and a stronger heart. What more could you ask for?

You may continue on the path that you are on and keep achieving the same results or you can make a change today that will affect the rest of your life. Think about that statement. The changes you make TODAY are changes that will affect the next 30-60 years of your life. The best part of this is that you are in control of whether or not you make a change.
